![]() The long-necked variety is allegedly between 5 and 15 feet long, and is said to have black or brown fur, large ears, small tusks, a head like a horse or emu, an elongated, maned neck about three feet long and with many folds of skin, and a horse-like tail. According to reports, these bunyips have round heads resembling a bulldog, prominent ears, no tail, and whiskers like a seal or otter. The seal-dog variety is most often described as being between 4 and 6 feet long with a shaggy black or brown coat. The bunyips presumably seen by witnesses, according to their descriptions, most commonly fit one of two categories: 60% of sightings resemble seals or swimming dogs, and 20% of sightings are of long-necked creatures with small heads the remaining descriptions are ambiguous beyond categorisation. Eugénie Louise McNeil recalled from her childhood memory in the 1890s that the bunyip supposedly had a snout like an owl ("a mopoke"), and was probably a nocturnal creature by her estimation. Robert Brough Smyth's Aborigines of Victoria (1878) devoted ten pages to the bunyip, but concluded "in truth little is known among the blacks respecting its form, covering or habits they appear to have been in such dread of it as to have been unable to take note of its characteristics". Antiquarian Reynell Johns claimed that until the mid-1850s, Aboriginal people made a "habit of visiting the place annually and retracing the outlines of the figure which is about 11 paces long and 4 paces in extreme breadth". According to the report, the bunyip had been speared after killing an Aboriginal man. is said to be that of an enormous starfish." The Challicum bunyip, an outline image of a bunyip carved by Aboriginal people into the bank of Fiery Creek, near Ararat, Victoria, was first recorded by The Australasian newspaper in 1851. George French Angus may have collected a description of a bunyip in his account of a "water spirit" from the Moorundi people of the Murray River before 1847, stating it is "much dreaded by them . Physical descriptions of bunyips vary widely. The bunyip has been described as amphibious, almost entirely aquatic and there are no reports of the creature being sighted on land, inhabiting lakes, rivers, swamps, lagoons, billabongs, creeks, waterholes, sometimes "particular waterholes in the riverbeds". ![]() Characteristics Bunyip (1935), by Gerald Markham Lewis, from the National Library of Australia digital collections, demonstrates the variety in descriptions of the legendary creature. In his 2001 book, writer Robert Holden identified at least nine regional variations of the creature known as the bunyip across Aboriginal Australia. The bunyip is part of traditional Aboriginal beliefs and stories throughout Australia, while its name varies according to tribal nomenclature. It was used by James Ives to describe "a large black animal like a seal, with a terrible voice which creates terror among the blacks". The word bahnyip first appeared in the Sydney Gazette in 1812. Some modern sources allude to a linguistic connection between the bunyip and Bunjil, "a mythic 'Great Man' who made the mountains, rivers, man, and all the animals". This contemporary translation may not accurately represent the role of the bunyip in pre-contact Aboriginal mythology or its possible origins before written accounts were made. The word bunyip is usually translated by Aboriginal Australians today as "devil" or "evil spirit". The origin of the word bunyip has been traced to the Wemba-Wemba or Wergaia language of the Aboriginal people of Victoria, in South-Eastern Australia. The bunyip is a creature from the aboriginal mythology of southeastern Australia, said to lurk in swamps, billabongs, creeks, riverbeds, and waterholes. Illustration of a Bunyip by J. I recommend the CPR Overflow Box as a hang on option! Below would be my recommendations for a hang-on overflow box: While my recommendation would be to purchase an external overflow or consider a reef ready tank, there are many people reading this post who may not have this option. The 3 Best Hang-On Overflow Box (2023 Reviews) The main downfalls with an external overflow is that you cannot have a flush aquarium to the wall since the box will stick out, and you will have to drill your tank (or pay someone to drill your tank – more on that later in this post). You can easily find external overflow boxes with a bean animal setup and there are several models now that offer a slim overflow design, which leaves a very small footprint inside the aquarium. It is possible to get a custom aquarium with a bean animal internal built-in overflow, but you will typically pay a lot more then going with an internal hang-on overflow or drilling your tank and getting an external overflow box.Īn external overflow box offer the most feature rich option on the market currently. They are integrated with the tank and usually are built with a Durso style system, which can operate with only one hole but do not have the silent features of a Bean Animal Overflow. Internal built-in overflow boxes are what you will usually see with Reef Ready Systems like a Red Sea Reefer. The failure points of a hang-on overflow can be mitigated by building a larger sump. ![]() They are usually the most affordable of the three and can be a good choice for those who do not want to drill their tank. The failure usually will occur with the loss siphon due to failure of the tubes, pump, or a power outage. Internal hang-on overflow boxes are the simplest to install, but have the greatest risk of failure in your aquarium. There are generally three types of overflow boxes: I hope at the end of the article you will become more informed and less scared about installing an overflow to create a primer aquarium equipment system. There are many overflow boxes out in the market, so what is the best overflow box? In today’s post I will go over the types of overflow boxes, hang-on versus drilled overflow boxes, the best hang on overflow box and drilled overflow boxes, and how to install an overflow on your aquarium. It filters out surface scum off the top of your aquarium and a properly installed overflow is a clean addition to your aquarium. An overflow box is an entry point to setting up a sump.

Svante’s Board of Directors includes Nobel Laureate and former Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu. With the ability to capture CO 2 from industrial sources and directly from the atmosphere in an environmentally sustainable way, Svante makes industrial-scale carbon capture and carbon removal a reality. Svante offers companies in emission-intensive industries a commercially viable way to capture large-scale CO 2 emissions from existing infrastructure, either for safe storage or to be used for further industrial use in a closed loop. Full Circle Capital acted as financial advisor to Svante in connection with the transaction. The project has received funding from the U.S. In 2020, Chevron launched a project to pilot Svante technology to capture CO 2 from post combustion of natural gas. Chevron plans to invest $10 billion in lower carbon projects through 2028 and remains committed to collaborating in new ways to accelerate progress.Ĭhevron Technology Ventures made an initial investment in Svante in 2014. In 2021, Chevron launched CNE to accelerate lower carbon business opportunities in CCUS, hydrogen, renewable fuels and products, offsets, and emerging technologies. Svante’s filters are also available for direct air capture and carbon dioxide removal. Svante’s technology is targeted toward industrial decarbonization activities in fields including hydrogen, pulp and paper, lime, cement, steel, aluminum, and chemicals. Its approach is tailored specifically to the challenges of separating CO₂ from nitrogen in diluted flue gas, which is typically emitted at low pressures, and in dilute concentrations. It then concentrates it into a high-purity, 95-percent pipeline-grade CO 2 to prepare it for storage or further industrial use. Svante’s modular solid sorbent technology is designed to capture CO 2 from industrial flue gas. The size and cost of installing carbon capture technology has been a barrier to industry adoption. “We are working to remove the biggest barriers to rapid deployment of industrial carbon capture by building this manufacturing facility, which we expect will enable us to rapidly expand our order book.” “We are proud that Chevron and a group of existing and new strategic and financial investors have demonstrated their confidence in Svante to be a key player in building a commercially viable carbon management industry,” said Claude Letourneau, President and CEO of Svante. This funding will support Svante’s commercial-scale filter manufacturing facility in Vancouver, which is anticipated to produce enough filter modules to capture millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO 2) per year across hundreds of large-scale carbon capture and storage facilities. Since its founding in 2007, Svante has developed carbon capture and removal technology using structured adsorbent beds, known as filters. “Innovation is key to enabling these types of breakthrough technologies and lower carbon solutions, and we look forward to applying our experience and expertise to help drive this effort forward.” ![]() “We are advancing a full value chain carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) business and believe Svante is poised to be a leader in enabling carbon capture solutions,” said Chris Powers, vice president of CCUS with CNE. Same concept. It would all blur together and not be defined. ![]() As far as the paw print looking bigger it’s bc we have spread the paw for best imprint to get the individual toes and pad to show in print instead of just a small little mesh of blob. Claws may be seen in prints left by cats who are jumping or running. Cats, on the other hand, will usually have their claws retracted so they may not show in prints. If the nails are long they’ll appear as they did in your clay paw print. Dog paw prints most often include claws because their claws are non-retractable, meaning they can not be drawn back into the paw. A cat footprint will rarely show a claw mark. We tend to “spread” the toes and pad and apply pressure which causes the nails to extract out. The biggest difference between a cat paw print and a dog paw print is that cat claws are retractable, and dog claws are not Cats have had retractable claws ever since their earliest cat ancestor lived about 20 to 25 million years ago. Also they are slightly harder to get a good impression bc they are lighter. I hate being graphic, but kitties are a different ball game. David Kirschner’s contribution was the concept of the serial killer Charles Lee Ray’s soul inhabiting the doll after being killed in a toy store. This human became Charles Lee Ray, to which John coined the name Chucky. His biggest contribution was giving Chucky a back story, and making him a human who somehow became a doll. John Lafia’s initial idea for Chucky coming to life involved a prisoner was being electrocuted on death row and his spirit getting into the doll at the nearby toy factory. The 1987 version of the script can be read here. Because Chucky is the embodiment of Andy’s unconsciousness, he decides that if he kills the boy, then Andy will be asleep forever and Chucky will be alive forever.ĭon Mancini has stated that around 50% of the finished film retains the concepts of his original script, with other ideas added by an additional writer, the producer, and the director. He goes after and kills the people that were Andy's enemies, including his babysitter, teacher, and his mother Karen. The original idea for Chucky was that he was not possessed by the soul of a cold-blooded serial killer, but was part of Andy's rage. As Andy was lonely and isolated, in a blood-brother pact he cut his own thumb and mixed his blood with Chucky's blood, so they could be “best friends forever”. Andy had an unconscious resentment toward her, as she was an overworked single mother who wasn’t around. Additionally, Chucky originally could only speak by pulling a string on his back. From that description, producer David Kirschner sketched the doll’s final design, which was then built into the animatronic doll by Kevin Yagher. ![]() He was described as a two-foot tall doll with red hair, blue eyes, freckles, red-buttoned overalls, red sneakers, and a striped sweater. The original script also toyed with the audience a bit longer, making them wonder if Andy was the killer rather than Chucky. The title Child's Play was settled on after it became known Steven Spielberg was already making a movie titled Batteries Not Included. Working titles for the film included " Batteries Not Included" and " Blood Buddy". However, unlike these examples he wanted to create a doll that could be a full-fledged character. Here, they host an annual contest where student teams build and test their LEGO® buildings for stability (Figure 2).įigure 2. One very large shake table is at the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Irvine. A shake table is a special type of table that engineers use to simulate an earthquake on model buildings. One way to test a design for stability to lateral forces is to use a shake table. Some of the world's tallest buildings, like the Petronas Towers, are an excellent example of this type of design because Malaysia is in an area that experiences frequent earthquake activity. If an engineer is going to design a building in earthquake country, then they need to be sure that their design can withstand lateral forces. Earthquakes occur when the earth's tectonic plates, which are slowly moving relative to each other, get stuck for a while and then suddenly come loose. One type of force that can weaken a structure is a lateral (side-to-side) shaking force, like that experienced during an earthquake. If the design is stable, then these forces will not weaken the structure or cause the structure to collapse. Forces come from many sources: gravity, people inside, weight of building materials, weather, and environmental impacts.
